OMEGA's RAMBLINGS If Monday was any indicator of how the week would turn out, this week should have been horrible. But, even though Sailor Moon has been restarted from episode 1, this has been a great week in terms of actual Entertainment. Though not much spreading around the MLs I have still managed to get some interesting bits of info this issue. And I have added myself to a few more mailing list (Seiyuu, Shojo, DragonBall Z, Hayao Miyazkai, CLAMP, Final Fantasy VIII Mailing List, just to name a few). You are probably wondering now: WHY? The answer is: I don't know. In other news. This issue sports the first 13 topic DD. And if you wanna see this trend to continue, please send me any articles or info you come upon in your Web Journeys. And if you have a web page tell me about it. Enjoy the issue. ;-) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.) Web Site Showcase Sludgezilla-Anime Gallery http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/sludgezilla/ If you are looking for pictures, this site has 4 Picture Galleries with… -TONS of great self scanned pictures (over 80) from various anime/manga ranging from Lum to Voltron to GunSmith Cats. -Owner and operator of the SZ-Anime Web Ring. -There is Avatar (name/picture) Anime Chat room, Links, and tons more. -But this is only a small portion of the site the rest can be found at SJ Comics - http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Ginza/6054/ Other Places of Interest-------- The Unofficial Fianl Fantasy 8 Home Page/ML - http://www.ffnetwork.com/ AnimeComplex's Chibi-Megami TV Web Page -(They have the synposis of the first 19 TV episodes, cast/staff list, and the character list. However, the release of the first Chibi-megami TV LD was postphoned indefinitely.)- http://www.ponycanyon.co.jp/nika/anicom/megami/index.html ------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.) Before I review El-hazard 2 Vol. 2, I just gotta say: GO OUT AND BUY KIKI'S DELIEVERY SERVICE!!! Trust me you won't be disappointed. Disney did an Excellent job on the Dub and they are really hyping up Kiki on CTN, with full music videos and other ads. EL-HAZARD 2 Vol. 2 Sub for $29.98 and Dub for $24.98 If you have ever had the privilege of seeing the original OAV series El-Hazard then you know that this is one great series. But I am disappointed with El-Hazard 2 as a whole. The 4 episodes fail to live up to the original and with the knowledge that the Second TV Series, El-Hazard: The Alternate World, picks up where the last episode of EH2 leaves off. There isn't much room for any real progression towards Makoto being reunited with Ifurita (see El-Hazard OAV Ep 7). Now on with the review. Episode 3 picks up with the crew as they have been duped by Jinni and now face death at the hands of his new Demon-God, Kalia. The situation deepens when Kalia gets more strength and creates a weapon 'even more powerful than The Eye of God.' Episode 4 brings the titanic final battle, which was supposed to be bigger than the one in the first OAV series. But, falls short in the end. And the 'gee-like-I-couldn't-see-that-happening-ending' brings the whole EH2 series full circle and makes this series seem more like a side story that could have been by passed. Because it made the whole series seem like THE WANDERERS at times. Personally I would of much rather seen an actual ENDING to the original OAV series in regards to the unanswered questions, instead of this side trip. Because if the chances of a Third OAV series of Tenchi-Muyo is an impossibility, then a Third OAV for El-Hazard is not a really big reality. Personal Suggestion: If you like El-Hazard then give it a try. But if you haven't ever seen an episode may I recommend you just see the First El-Hazard OAV series. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 4.) The Cartoon Network Delays The New Episodes of Sailor Moon Again, A Victim Of Our Own Success... In a decision which we don't agree with, The Cartoon Network will delay the airing of the new 17 episodes (the final episodes of "Sailormoon-R") until later this Fall. The network wants to air the programs when general viewership is higher. Summer, especially during the Labor Day period, is when ratings are at their lowest levels. The Cartoon Network now plans to build a special promotion around the airing of these episodes to build audience awareness. The new episodes would run in the normal time slot. We expect that the new episodes will not air until October or November. Originally the network planned to air the new episodes immediately following the initial 65 episode Syndication package. In fact, some at the network weren't even aware that there was a distinction between the episodes. (In other words, they thought they had licensed 82 episodes and didn't know that there was a difference between them.) With the show's unusual success, the new episodes have gained more importance--which has prompted the network's actions. Another reason is that the television industry is expecting unusually "soft" ratings this Fall for Afternoon Kids programming. There are no standout programs premiering or moving to the Afternoon schedules. New episodes of "Sailor Moon" could stand out more. We disagree with all of the above. "Sailor Moon" is not a series to be shown out of order. Breaking- up the flow hurts the ratings--it doesn't improve them. Further, "general viewership" is not the same viewership which has been or will be attracted to watching this series. Ratings maybe higher for most programs in the Fall but they will certainly be less higher for this show. Please register your displeasure in The Cartoon Network's AOL Chat Room (if it still exists) or wherever else appropriate. Please be polite. Meanwhile, Episode 1 (yep, that thing) aired on Monday, August 31 with the rest of the 65 episodes to be shown in order until the network schedules the new episodes. We encourage The Cartoon Network to drop the "Doomtree" episodes (English Language Episodes 41-53), go directly into "Sailormoon-R" (Episodes 54-65) and then into the new episodes (66-82). Also on Monday, August 31, "Dragonball Z" joined the Toonami block at 5pm weekdays. "Thundercats" will be dropped on Monday, October 5 and replaced with new episodes of "Superfriends." ~Source: the Article of the same name from the Sailor Moon: SOS at http://dau.physics.sunysb.edu/~ming/sos/index1.shtml ------------------------------------------------------------------ 5.) CWA A freind on the Ranma ml mailed this, and I thought you guys may be interested. I'm three days backlogged in mail so apologies if this has already come up. Well, it's begun. Fundamentalist mouthpiece Beverly LaHaye's group Concerned Women For America has issued a press release condemning Disney for distributing the “Satanic” and “occult” movie Kiki's Delivery Service and is calling on people to boycott Disney and write letters of protest to Michael Eisner. Now I thought I had heard everything, but I should have seen this coming. “Kiki” is the story of a young witch coming into her own. OOOOhhhh! It is a beautiful film (as all Miyazaki stuff is...), but this is too much to take. Now we all have legitimate reasons for boycotting Disney. It IS a Satanic outfit (anybody here ever looked at an overhead map of the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida? THAT'S RIGHT, it's a pentagram.) that probably conducts ritual blood sacrafice every night after the park closes down (ever wonder why there's a new Tinkerbell every day?). But that's not the point. Sure we like Disney less, but if they're going to distribute translated Miyazaki stuff that has been edited under Miyazaki's supervision, then I say all power to them. Really, speaking as a Goldwater Republican, these people can be a pain in the yarbles. There are more important things to do in America (and Japan, for that matter) than to worry about the Satanic influences perceived by some really paranoid individuals who need some time in the sack with Troubadour (yes, a murderer, but I could see what Urd saw in the guy). But if you really think that KDS is a plot hatched by Beelzebub, then go for it! If you perhaps feel like writing a PRO-Kiki letter to Mr. Eisner, the address the CWA is using is: Chairman Michael Eisner The Disney Company 500 South Buena Vista Street Burbank, California 91521 Well, alright. Not that Eisner is any kind of a saint. He's probably one of the more corrupt individuals in the entertainment industry today. Disney just has the whiff of the Cosa Nostra in their day to day operations. One expects Mr. Eisner's opponents in Hollywood to end up where Jimmy Hoffa is working: holding up cement under the Meadowlands. And I'm sure you'll receive a form letter of thanks along with a shakedown letter asking you to contribute 5 dollars to 5 thousand dollars to the Democratic National Committee, but that's part of the price of doing business. Here's my idea. Let's establish YET ANOTHER organized religion, this time the First Church of Belldandy the Megami of Purity. We could make Les the Pope. He wouldn't give a rat's ass, he's an atheist, and besides, we could make it a salaried position. And Sam and the Newcomer could be Cardinals and start their own Curia based in New Zealand. And it would be a nice and corrupt curia, too. Some traditions have to be carried on! We could then give Les a stipend and send him forward to Spread the Good News of Belldandy's Word. Dressed in a Gorilla Suit, of course (inside joke). Of course, there would be a Protestant Movement centered around Saint Urd the Licentious, but that wouldn't come until the corruption had set in the first church....
