OMEGA's RAMBLINGS The Legion Chats return this issue giving us the first 12 topic issue. Plus the quantity is back compared to last issue. Also as a cool side-note: This weeks website showcase comes totally out of left field at the last minute. My dad finally got back from New Jersey where he was doing a job. And whenever he does a job he brings back the WEIRDEST stuff he can find (he lives for annoying 'camel-jokes'.) this time he found KETCHUP FLAVORED POTATO CHIPS, and a barrage of bizarre drinks. And one, three actually, of those just happened to be Jones Soda (Fufu Berry, Blue Bubble Gum, and Green Apple) plus a few other Strawberry and Black Cherry drinks (they have to be in glass bottles to be unique.) Well if you have never had a JONES SODA, I must say you are missing out. The flavors sound nasty, but believe me they are the best you will ever taste. And they even have a pretty cool web site which is this issues showcased web site. KIKI's Delivery Service Comes out Sept 1 on VHS!!! DragonBall Z starts Aug 31 at 5:00 PM on Cartoon Network!!! Sailor Moon: The 17 new dubbed episodes start Aug 31at 4:00 PM!!! POKEMAN starts Sept 7in syndication!!!! Sci-Fi Channel's Saturday Anime will return on September 5, 1998 with Project A-Ko!!! Well enjoy this issue. It was easy to get the info… just putting it together took forever. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.) Web Showcase Web site showcase------- JONES SOAD CO. http://www.jonessoda.com/ -This site has a listing of all the flavors, a retro slide show of all the Black & White photos (porto- potties, fat old ladies at the beach, and many others) that make up the bottle labels. -See what bizarre flavors they have coming next, and read about the LIFEbeat team-up, and much more on the events page, there is a page dedicated to someone's junk drawer, links, and tons more…. -The best part (and funniest part) of the site has to be the personal experiences of Jones Soda drinks. I mean 50 Pages of the funniest things you will hear. -This is one Company site you shouldn't miss. Give these sites a try---- The Official Apollo Smile Website - http://apolloites.org - (well, it isn't much right now, but you gotta admire her) Bandai America - http://www.bandai.com/release.shtml - (I miss the Sailor Moon, DragonBall, and Cardzillion info… :-( eBay - http://cayman.ebay.com/aw/index.html - (One of the best auction places to do if you want a hard to find item cheap) Mailing List Showcase------ DragonBall Z ML http://www.golden.net/~katchan/dbzml/dbzml.html -Read the rules. And then if you are ready to subscribe send e-mail to… major@catbox.com , with "subscribe dbzml" in the body. -A digest is also a valible send e-mial to the same address, with a body of "subscribe dbzml- digest". (I do recommend the Digest because the list is VERY buisy. Expect 45+ KB per digest). ------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.) Tons of X-Files News The X-Files: Fight The Future will be out on video on October 13th, and it is priced to sell. Most places will probably offer it for between $15.99 and $19.99. This is still a tentative date. I guess they are waiting till the last minute to decide on the actual release date. The video suppliers I have talked to have given this date, but have said that Fox is known for changing their mind. There is a report at the laser disc newsgroup that the X-Files movie will be released on LD on November 11. (Darn, it should have been Nov. 21!) Also, the post stated that it will be released in both Dolby Digital and DTS versions. This is not an official announcement; the news was posted by someone who was given this information by an employee at Image Entertainment, a major LD distributor. Didn't see anything about DVD releases, though. -- Paula The X-Files Episode Guide from The Official X-files Web Site 5X17 08/30/98 ALL SOULS ® 5X08 09/06/98 KITSUNEGARI ® 6X01 11/08/98 THE BEGINNING 6X02 --/--/-- DRIVE 6X03 --/--/-- (6AB03) 9/13 is the Emmys and it is incredibly bad form to be the most nominated program and running against the award show that night. Although there is no proof they won't run that night, they didn't last year. 9/20 and 9/27 should have episodes. 10/4 is baseball. 10/11 is baseball if needed. 10/18 is the second game of the World Series. 10/25 is the seventh game of the World Series, if the Yankees haven't quickly dispatched some poor National League Victim, whoops, Team. 11/1 is Jurrasic Park 2: The Lost World 11/8 is The X-Files: The Beginning. As for reruns....there are 22 new episode and about 28 weeks between 11/8 and the season finale. Since there will be reruns on Easter, Christmas and New Year's weekend, that means very few reruns for the rest of the year. From Cinescape... “The third episode just began filming. Mulder is Jewish ( it will be revealed, I think discreetly, I think) in the second ep. The X-Files, in the first few eps, will be run mainly by Agents Foley and Spender, with M&S doing something else, A guy named Kirsch is their boss.” Spoilers for 6X03 On ET tonight (8/27), there was a 2 ½ minute XF bit about the time-travel epi. There were a few bloopers and a lot of fighting. The general idea of the epi is that Mulder boards a ship (in ‘real life', the Queen Mary) and gets taken back to 1939. There's a group of Nazis aboard the ship, who look like they're just itching to shoot Mulder and “Scully”. It seems that Scully isn't even in the epi, because GA plays “Ms. 1939 Scully-look-alike” (but isn't actually Scully). DD and GA do kiss (GA says “It was wet!”; DD says “There was no tongue involved, but there was definitely something there”), but Mulder and Scully don't (ie: he kisses the GA's 1939 Scully-look-alike). ---Shellie :) ~Source: The X-Files Digest ML V5 #2444-2252, various posts. The X-Files cast members in The Green Mile Doug Hutchison (“Tooms”) and Jeffrey DeMunn (FTF) are in the cast of the new Stephen King movie based on his novel “The Green Mile,” currently filming. The story seems very X-Files-ish to me so it seems appropriate that there are some former XF guest stars in it. :) < ------------------------------------------------------------------ 4.) Support needed for new newsgroup "alt.binaries.emulators.roms" From Stuart Luscombe Down to business! I am setting up a newsgroup to cover the emulation scene that is fluctuating across the Internet, when I say fluctuate, that is exactly how it is! As one site goes up, another is shut down! So, I've taken it upon myself to set up a newsgroup where people can get the emulators and roms they want for ANY system that's currently emulated, provided the game has been converted to a rom. For those of you who don't know what emulators or roms are, I shall now tell you: Did you, or do you own a SNES? A Megadrive/Genesis? A C64? An Amstrad CPC? Well, there are some clever bods out on the net who've written software that make your PC/Mac/Amiga/Linux machine think it's a different system altogether! These pieces of software are the ‘emulators' and pose no threat to the running of your system, so don't worry (your computer won't suddenly think it's an Atari 2600 for no reason!) Now that you have the emulator for your chosen system/s, you need games, and because you can't just shove a cart or tape into your computer, there are other people who've somehow transferred these games to a PC and put them into a format that the emulator can recognise. These are called ‘roms', and depending on the game system, are easy or extremely difficult to find. I hope this has cleared that little matter up!? Any questions about it, e-mail me! There is a LOT of controversy on the net about emulation, the roms in particular. Companies such as Sega and Nintendo aren't too happy, because people are getting games for their systems, without having to actually buy the system first. But the way I see it, I doubt Sega and Nintendo are selling many 16bit systems anymore anyway! This reason is why the games are currently fairly difficult to get ahold of in rom format. SO, what I propose in this new newsgroup is a place where roms and emulators can be freely traded! Where they can be discussed and requested without the fear of it being shut down! (You see, alt.* newsgroups can't be shut down!) This newsgroup will support ANY system that is emulated and all I ask is YOUR support!? If you like the idea for this newsgroup, then please reply to this message and give me your comments, suggestions, words of support. Thanks for taking the time to read this message! Stuart Luscombe ------------------------------------------------------------------ 5.) ANIME: NINTENDO GOES OVERBOARD WITH PROMOTIONS Can you say sellout? Whether you like it or not, Nintendo, those funny wacky people that brought you Zelda, Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach are busy manufacturing a cult phenomenon. Remember that weird Japanese cartoon which caused children throughout that nation to have epileptic seizures? That cartoon, domestically named Pocket Monsters, is about a kid and his hyper-cute cuddly creatures with big eyes, fighting evil. It comes with a whole line of stuffed toys, comics, and two Nintendo games, and it's coming here September 7, and straight for your wallet. If that wasn't bad enough, Nintendo's bringing two massive publicity stunts to launch the series. First is the honorary renaming of Topeka, Kansas to To-Pikachu, Kansas, after Pikachu the Pocket Monster. The new name will be official through the first week of broadcast. Wonder how much the mayor got for that one, and if the residents of Kansas will let him live. The other is cooler. The Poke-Patrol, a fleet of Volkswagen Beetles painted to look like Pikachu, will make a tour through selected US cities to raise Pocket Monster awareness and pick up young Asian schoolgirls. Well, if this doesn't work, how about Pocket Monster condoms? We thought that'd be the next logical step. Got a comment, gripe, question, or witty insight? Tenchi-Muyo In Love 2 We have the title. It has been announced for Spring 99, and trailers have started floating around. I have this from six different Japanese sources. (they all e-mailed me this weekend ;-) The Actuall Japanese Title is: Tenchi Muyo in LOVE2 ---HARUKA NARU OMOI (A Far Away Feeling) It is written by: Masaharu Amiya (The person who did the Tenchi Drama radio series). OK, I have some more news from Satoshi. Here is what he told me: There was some sort of screening at a recent PLDC event. (word is that TMiL2 has actually been done for a while, and they are waiting on marketting and to go up against someone other then Nadesico and Slayers). I don't know how much he saw, I would assume only two or three minutes. “It looked very different then previous Tenchi” In fact he said that it looked like “Lain” which is an upcoming title from PLDC that was done by Triangle Staff (anyone heard of them?) The page for that is at: http://www.pldc.co.jp/plag/ I still have not heard anything about Mayuka etc. I also have not heard anything about weither or not Megumi Hayashibara is involved. Some of the speculation I have heard that while it borrows from TMiL and OVA, Sakuya would be in it, may be due to the fact that the heroine from Lain looks awefully like Sakuya. It sounds like there is some kind of massive character design change. Given that some studio besides AIC is involved, that's not too suprising. ~Source: TenchiKen member of the Tenchi-Muyo ML. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 7.) Anime: OMG! Movie & Afternoon Magazine Oh My Goddess!: The Movie 1) The theme is going to be on reliance. What's that mean? Well, it has a picture of Peorth (suggesting that she might be in it). Could it be the rivalry between Belldandy and Peorth will be settled here? 2) Direct by Hiroaki Ghoda 3) Direct pictures by Hidenori Matsubara For storyboards and other info please goto the INFO page at…. http://ux01.so-net.or.jp/~akira_i/amg/ . In Japan the October issue of AFTERNOON reports that…. Ah! Megami-sama “1999 Brilliant Calendar of the Goddess” will be out. Size is 30cm x 42cm, 7 sheets. Also includes original trading cards. Preorder price is 2800 yen. Preorder deadline is Oct 5. This month's present is 1 of 21 different Telephone cards. Card no.1 is A!MS with the three goddesses on it. Costs 620 yen but the present is gurranteed if you apply (i.e. not a lucky draw). Unfortunately, the application form is on the back of the commercial for A!MS #17. Which brings me to the next news: A!MS #17 will be out on 9/22 and “it is rumored” (Afternoon Ad said) that #18 will be out in November. “Let's read about Belldandy's hidden past and Banpei-kun's first love!” ~Source: Stephen Lee member of Megami ML. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 8.) DC's Next Skip Week, ect. Michael Doran's NEWSARAMA reports an upcoming DC 5th week event, similar to TANGENT, GIRLFRENZY, and the upcoming KINGDOM, will be a JSA week headed up by James Robinson (Starman) and David Goyer (Starman, Blade), with 6-8 one-shot books by different creative teams, backed by a bookend prologue and epilogue by Robinson and Goyer. The event is planned for next spring, leading into the ongoing JSA series the duo have planned for next summer. Characters being mentioned for that current-day series now include Alan Scott (Sentinel), Jay Garrick (Flash), Jack Knight (Starman), Hourman (JLA), and a new Dr. Midnite (soon to be introduced by MAGE's Matt Wagner), and Goyer recently posted on AOL that he and Robinson had figured out a way to include some more original JSA members ~Source: ZENtertainment #242 Alex Ross will be doing a re-creation of the cover to “Adventure” 247 for next year's Overstreet Price Guide. A sketch and the pencils for the final cover are online at http://www.gemstonepub.com/fan/features/alexross/ross3.htm This one definitely will make the AR list. ~Source: Michael R. Grabois member of LOSH ML. Wizard #86 reports that in December the KINGDOM COME storyline will come to a head in the three week KINGDOM EVENT, answer all our questions, stop the KC future from happening, give the Linear Men the spotlight they need, possibly doom the DC ONE MILLION future from happening (but there is going to be an HOURMAN ongoing series with a Time-Travel premise like CHRONOS), and cause some major things to happen in the DC Universe for years to come. I will on the look out for any new info on these events. For the CRISIS hardcover, Tom has 16 more pages and a miniposter left to recolor. The Legion books are currently in no danger of cancellation. Jeff hasn't been asked to design any Legion figures or PVCs. Tom didn't know if ADVENTURE COMICS would be revived after the one-shot that will be released this week. The Legion TPB is slated for late fall ‘99, but it may be moved up earlier. They still haven't decided on a cover artist. There are no plans to redesign any existing characters. Tom and Roger have plans for Umbra, but they won't happen soon. She won't get a name change. Story ideas are also being considered for Zoe. Tom is sure that some of the SCIENCE POLICE characters will show up in the Legion books. Jeff is finishing up some pages with Jan, Monstress, and Lori. Jan's bedroom will be depicted as spartan. Tom said Imra is supposed to be out of the Science Police and back to the Legion by the end of the Dark Circle storyline. The Affiliated Planets include Xanthu, Winath, the Dominion, Tyrazz, and others. Star Boy's new power doesn't imply that his other powers are changing or disappearing. Thom will be focussed upon soon. A preboot character returns in L* #66. Tom is excited about Jeff's art in the upcoming cave-in story in L* #67. We learn more about Karate Kid in LSH #112. Tom noted that Val has no super-powers. Jeff has heard from somewhere that Inferno may be returning to the future. Tom told us to “look for a sort of different/new Brainy soon.” Jeff thinks Wildfire appears in one of September's millionth issues in a flashback. XS will appear in FLASH soon, but Tom didn't say whether she'd be seen in the 20th or 30th century. She'll be taking a leave of absence for at least a couple months to visit her cousin Impulse. Soon each of the books will have its own set of characters. The team in L* will include Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy, Monstress, Element Lad, Ultra Boy, Apparition, XS, and Lori and Proty. Kinetix and Spark will be featured in LSH. -- Alex Tam goldie@intergate.bc.ca; Nachro2 on AOL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks for reading and see you next issue. ~Back Issues can be found at http://members.rotfl.com/OMEGA/ ~To unsubscribe send an unsub e-mail to ablarnold@msn.com That's it for this issue.
